Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

Friends and Enemies:
“My friend is worried that her bf is going to dump her while she's grounded.”

Hey Terra,

OK, my friend is going out with a guy and he's really great for her, but for the last 2 weeks she's been grounded. She thinks he might break up with her because they don't see each other (other than school). I've told her he would never do that and there's nothing to worry about. My problem is I'm running out of things to tell her. Maybe I should just wait until she's not grounded!!!

HELP!!!

What should I do

Dear What should I do,

It's very cool that you care so much about your friend that you want to say things to make her less worried about her relationship with her boyfriend. However, this is not your problem. You can't control your friend's worrying. You can't control her parents and the grounding. You can't control her boyfriend's feelings for her. All you can do is help her stop worrying about things SHE can't control either. You can tell her this: If this "great" guy really cares for her, he's not going to dump her because she's been grounded for a couple of weeks. If he did dump her for that reason, he's not such a great guy after all!

How's that sound to you?

In friendship,

Terra
