Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

Getting over a broken heart:
“Getting over a broken heart (bf/gf).”

Hey Terra,

Me and my boyfriend aren't together... but he said he wanted to be with me but he can't because he's afraid that he's gonna cheat on me and he doesn't want that to happen. He said we will get back together but he has to stop doing what he was doing then he will get back with me. Well, there's this girl in his classes and he likes her and wants to go out with her. I don't know what to do. I don't know if I should move on or ask him if we are ever gonna get back together and if he says yes what should I do? All I do now is cry because I know he likes another girl... and i don't want that. I just want him. We've been together for 8 months and we've been broken up for about a week. On Sunday I went to his house and it seemed like we were fine and we acted like we were together and now that I'm not like seeing him in person, it's like we ain't fine, and while we were broken up in the past week he always said he loved me and stuff so I believe him. Please help me!

Love Tattered Heart

Dear Love Tattered Heart,

It sounds like this guy doesn't want what you want in this relationship. You are looking for a guy who will be true. Someone you can trust who will treat you with respect and care about your feelings. Someone who wants to be with you as much as you want to be with him. Your ex did you a favor by breaking up with you. Really! Because now you can see that he has other interests and if you are going to get your emotional needs met, you are going to have to shop somewhere else.

I understand that it hurts to lose a loving relationship. It feels sad not to have someone paying special attention to you. But do you really want to be the kind of girl who lets herself be put up on a shelf until a guy is ready to pay attention to you again?! You deserve better treatment than that! And besides, you have a life to live... by sitting around, crying, waiting for some guy to "stop doing what he's doing" (cheating, being interested in other girls, etc.) so he can "get back together" with you (and probably hurt you again and again)... I mean, what is that about? Why put yourself through that?

Do you realize that the sooner you move on the sooner you will find the right guy for you?

I hope this helps.

In friendship,

Terra
