Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

“My friend gets all the guys”
(Continued)

Hey Terra,

What I mean by "She tells me I'm pretty and is not helping get my confidence back" is that she tells me a guy likes me so and that helps and I start to believe it and then I go out without her for a night and come back and she is kissing this guy so as soon as I turn my back she goes for the guys I like. And when she likes a guy it's like "Hands off! You can't have him!" and it gets to me.

second choice

Dear second choice,

Any friend who goes after the guy she knows you like is NOT a real friend. Sounds like she is competing with you. Real friends don't compete... Real friends help each other.

So maybe she's not really the kind of friend who supports you and is trustworthy. If she's not, then you need to find some real friends.

But what about the other stuff I wrote to you, about reclaiming your own self-confidence? This is not about your so-called friend. This is about YOU... And the kind of choices you make... And the kind of person you are becoming. Did you make the list about the things you're proud of?

In friendship,

Terra
