Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

“I'm 13 and this 17 year old guy keeps asking me out.”
(Continued)

Hey Terra,

How do you know so much? I don't wanna get hurt that is why I didn't say yes. And my mom knows how he feels about me so we moved to another house but it seems he can still find me! I'd really like if we were just friends till I get a bit older... like 19-23!? Is that bad for a 19 year old girl and a 23 year old guy to go out?

Baby-G

Dear Baby-G,

I can tell you are a very smart girl. And your mom is doing just the right thing to protect you.

Here's what you need to do, tell this 17 year old guy that you are not going out with him. Tell him that you know that you are too young for that kind of relationship. Tell him that you don't want him asking you out any more.

If that means that you and he cannot be friends at this time because he wants more than that in a relationship, then so be it. It is much more important that you and your mom work together to keep you safe than it is for you to do something you know is not right just to stay "friends" with this young man.

As for your question about a 19 year old and a 23 year old dating, in that case, both the girl and the guy are adults and that makes all the difference.

In friendship,

Terra
