Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

Parents:
“I'm scared to ask my parents.”

Hey Terra,

I'm almost 14 and my school is having a dance. I want to go, but I'm scared to ask my parents to go. I don't know what I should say or how their reaction would be. I think this because they might think I'm to young or something. What should I say to them?

Confused

Dear Confused,

Instead of trying to guess what your parents are thinking, how about just asking them? You might say something like this: "There's going to be a dance at my school next week. It starts at 7:30 and it's over at 11:00. I'd like to go. Is that okay with you?"

If you don't talk to them and let them know what's important to you, how are they supposed to know?

Good luck and let me know what happens.

In friendship,

Terra
