Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

Wish I had one:
“How do I get to know the guy I'm crushing on?”

Hey Terra,

How can I get to know the boy I have a crush on? Can you help me?

Loving

Dear Loving,

How do you get to know anybody? How do you become friends with someone? Usually you start by talking to them, asking questions, LISTENING... And finding out what (if anything) you two have in common.

Too many people (teens and adults) want to jump right into the Boyfriend/Girlfriend Zone and all the great romantic stuff that comes with it without really getting to know the other person at all! Sorry, but that just seems crazy to me. I mean, without taking the time to get to know the other person you can't know him or her as a person. So then what? You've got a make--out buddy who is pretty much a stranger. Not a good idea.

Bottom line, it takes time to grow a friendship so that a crush has a chance of becoming more to you than a fantasy. Are you willing to put in the time?

In friendship,

Terra
