Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

Pregnancy:
“The doctor told my fiancé that he couldn't get me pregnant.”

Hey Terra,

Last month my period came late by like a week and this month my period is late again. I have been feeling really weak if I stand up for too long. At times I have been feeling nauseous. I have been getting headaches really often. Yes I have been having unprotected sex but the doctor had told my fiancé that he was temporarily unable to get me pregnant because he used to be a heavy weed smoker. Do you think it would be odd if I were pregnant? Would that be impossible? Or is anything possible? What could this be? Oh, yeah, and at times I feel like a strange cramp in my stomach.

Please get to me as soon as you can.

Thinkful and Confused

Dear Thinkful and Confused,

Yes, of course it's possible for you to be pregnant. Pot smoking can reduce sperm count but it doesn't reduce it to zero. If you don't want to get pregnant you should always use protection. Not just some of the time, but always, otherwise you put yourself at risk.

As for the cramps, and headaches and nausea, etc. I am not a doctor. And Even if I were, I wouldn't be able to tell you what's going on through an email. I strongly suggest you get examined by a doctor. If you don't have a family doctor, call 1.800.230.PLAN (that's the national Planned Parenthood Network). They'll tell you where the nearest Planned Parenthood Clinic is. Make an appointment and find out what's going on with your body and your periods and all the rest.

I hope this helps.

In friendship,

Terra
