Annie Fox for Teens... Hey, Terra!

Annie (AKA Hey Terra!) has been around long enough to have experienced a lot of what Life can dish out. But, it hasn’t been so long that she's forgotten what it's like to be your age. Check out some of the thousands of email questions teens from around the world have sent to Terra. You may learn something useful from her answers:

“My mom's getting remarried and I don't think she cares about me any more.”
(Continued)

Hey Terra,

Things are going all right for the new year. I've managed to spark a little conversation about the situation with my mom and we've gotten closer since then. Though there are a few fights here and there.

I've also gotten the chance to know her boyfriend a bit better and I came to the conclusion that he is really nice. I guess at first the change was too much for me and so I spazzed. Being an only child, I thought that if my mom was taken, I would have nothing but I've shaken that off my shoulders now. I feel as though a lot has been taken off my shoulders now. Thanks so much for your help Terra!

Left Out Kid

Dear Left Out Kid,

I am so proud of you for having the courage to talk with your mom about your feelings. And what a good thing that the two of you have gotten closer as a result. Brava, girl, you've used your power to make things better!

Also, the fact that you gave yourself a chance to get to know your mom's boyfriend -- Wow, a lot of people in your shoes would have just stayed stuck with their attitude "I don't like him" and never been willing to open their hearts or minds. But you did! And that's really great. I have tremendous respect for you and the choices you've been making.

Keep up the good work and please know that if you ever need me, I'm right here.

In friendship,

Terra
